Why Was Jesus Baptized if He Never Sinned?
Deep Made Simple·Deep Made Simple·27:29
Jesus had no sin to confess. So why did He stand in the same muddy line as the tax collectors and soldiers and farmers waiting to be baptized by John in the Jordan? This is not a footnote question. Scripture raises the objection out loud, through the one man with the authority to raise it, and the answer it gives reshapes how you understand everything that follows. John the Baptist had spent months telling people this water was for turning around. He knew what baptism meant. And when the one man who never needed to turn around stepped into the river, John tried to stop it. He argued. He pushed back. The Bible does not tuck this problem away and hope nobody notices. What Jesus said in response is one of the most compressed and layered sentences in all of Matthew. One sentence, and John stepped aside. Unpacking it takes you from a priestly washing ceremony in Exodus, to a census word in Isaiah, to a sky being torn apart overhead, to the Father speaking delight over a life that had not yet done a single public miracle. This video walks through every layer slowly. The Greek behind baptizo and metanoia. The mikveh pools archaeologists have found cut into bedrock near the temple, with partitions designed to keep the clean and unclean from touching each other on the stairs. What it means that Jesus reversed the direction of that traffic entirely. Why Mark chose the word schizo, to rip rather than to open, and why he uses the exact same word at the cross. What the voice from the sky is actually quoting and why it's two scriptures folded into one. And what all of it hands to the person who is quietly wondering whether they have to earn the approval that Jesus received before His ministry ever started. 📖 KEY VERSE "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness."
